So a lot of you know how much I appreciate the Film Noir theme. I love the lighting, the characters (especially the detective), the hard drinking and the “speak” as I call it.
Hence my name pseudo name, “G-man”
So I really want to do a photo shoot in that style. I got close photographing my beautiful friend Vanessa in the a 40’s Hollywood Glamour style and I loved the way it tuned out. Click here to view that gallery.
Now I want to try shooting a dark detective smoking scene. You know, at his desk, with a glass of bourbon and his gun nearby. But I’m not a smoker and wondered how those actors on TV and movies do it.
I did some research and found that they smoke “herbal cigarettes.” All the smoke but no tar or nicotine. I bought a pack and a zippo lighter and decided it was time to try a test photo shoot. I used our garage and then asked Elizabeth to help me.
Mind you, I’m no smoker so I kinda look stupid trying to look like I know what I’m doing. Elizabeth was nice enough to be my photographer so after a lot of trial and error, I took the color photos into Photoshop, changed them to BW, added some contrast and some “grit” with the Clarity slider. Some came out good but I sure do need to work on my lighting.
